Welcome
from the Chief Residents
The process of selecting an Internal Medicine training program is an arduous one. The interviews, the travel, the tours… it’s enough to make one never want to travel again. Separating programs and finding the perfect match for your needs and wants becomes quite difficult. Factors such as quality of life, quality of training, clinical experience and personal interaction with the other residents become paramount in deciding your rank list. The three of us also faced the same questions and uncertainties when going through the interview process. How can we best describe the Internal Medicine program here in Charleston? The word “friendly” is a good place to start. The happiness and camaraderie among the housestaff and attendings is obvious. The ability to foster such a friendly environment while providing superb training and clinical experience is second to none. It is rare to find this combination in a major academic center with national recognition of excellence in many areas. Additional combined specialty tracks include Medicine/Pediatrics and Medicine/Psychiatry. Charleston itself has much to do with the atmosphere of the training program. It is a truly beautiful city with historic homes and architecture as well as a sort of “living history” not found in many American cities. Charleston appeals to a range of personalities and offers a host of activities including world class golfing, beaches, theater, fine dining and shopping. We sincerely hope you will consider what we have to offer and schedule an interview. Please feel free to email one or all of us if you have any questions about our program. We look forward to meeting you soon! Sincerely,
